What is AMYA Foundation Inc?
A private non-profit, non-stock organization. It carries the name of its late founder, AUREA MERCADO Y. ADRIAS (AMYA). Founded in 1987, it focuses its benevolence on the marginalized and the unempowered, purposely to improve the quality of life of targetted beneficiaries. It is run by a Board of Trustees representing several Davao City-based institutions ed personally be Dra. AMYA and perpetuated to serve on the Board, as expressedly stated on her Last Will and Testament.

What group was the initial focus of the Foundation's benevolence?
The poor but deserving children of indigent families struggling to make both ends meet from odd jobs such as washing laundry, or driving "trisikads", sidewalk vendor, or selling used clothings (ukay-ukay) or domestic helper, among others. In qualifying for the tuition grant, the applying hopefuls should show an average cumulative grade not lower than 85% after graduating from a public elementary or high school, and entering public HS, tech-voc or college for the first time. They then undertake and pass a written exam under time pressure and finally undergo a panel interview with the AMYA Scholarship Committee which would decide the result of the screening process.
